Benefits of providing for the basic needs of children:
|
• |
No child should go hungry. No adult should either. Hunger not only causes death, the deprivation that millions of people feel every day also depresses productivity making it harder and harder for these people to pull themselves out of the desperate situation they face. |
|
• |
A basic education will allow a child to improve on their situation. Teaching children the skills they need will enable them to help themselves, their community and their children. |
|
• |
Clean water and adequate sanitation will save thousands of lives. Each day thousands upon thousands of children die because they drank unsafe water or because drought spurred the famine that claimed their lives. |
|
• |
Health care is critical for ensuring that children make it through the crucial first five years of life. Vaccines and immunization will also help spare children from debilitating and/or deadly diseases that can claim their futures. |
Purpose
MCPH's mandate is to make child poverty history - one child, one village at a time. This goal in itself makes the nature of the program an ongoing one. While events and activities may take place from time to time to rally the resources of a group, these are only tactical measures to reach the MCPH goal. Our true goal is to encourage individuals and corporations to make MCPH a part of life, a way to make a difference with actions that may seem small but which count nonetheless.
We began as a corporate outreach program but have expanded to encompass individuals and organizations outside of the founding corporation. We are a non-governmental organization that as a collective specifically encourages corporations to join the fight to make child poverty history. We facilitate their participation by sharing the expertise of members and partner organizations.
MCPH is not a charity. There is no monetary compensation for the work we do, just the satisfaction that we are helping save the lives of children and their families. Instead we consider ourselves a catalyst - a group of like-minded individuals and corporations who know that the suffering of children can be made a thing of the past if more people joined the campaign to make child poverty history.
The MCPH Approach
Members of the MCPH family facilitate the enrollment of individuals and corporations into giving programs operated by experienced and established charities that have the infrastructure to accomplish positive and tangible goals on the ground. Using Internet marketing, MCPH works to expand the awareness of the plight of children in the hopes that others will join us and help make poverty history for children worldwide. Each person / organization that gets involved in making child poverty history via the MCPH program receives support via Internet pages or websites provided by one of our sponsoring corporations, WSI Internet Consulting and Education, so that they can solicit others to get involved. And, for every child sponsored by an individual or organization, our corporate sponsors will match the number by sponsoring another child.
The first experienced aid/development organization to join the MCPH network is World Vision Canada. As Canada's largest relief and development organization, World Vision supports community development via life-giving programs carried out by individuals in communities worldwide. World Vision is only the first of what we hope will be a growing body of aid/development organizations that will join the Make Child Poverty History campaign. These organizations will work with MCPH to share information that will encourage other corporations and individuals to sponsor children and support the efforts to make child poverty history.
Values
The members of MCPH as a collective do not believe in faith-for-food based initiatives or discriminatory aid practices. The funneling of donations and awareness raising campaigns will not be influenced by race, creed, or nationality of recipients but rather on the basis of need. Our efforts will not be used to further any personal goals, save to make child poverty history. We will respect the culture, customs, rights and religion (if any) of recipients. We will remain accountable to the people we work to help, aid / development organizations that partner with us and to our members.
We know that there are organizations around the world making a positive and lasting difference in the lives of the most disadvantaged people. MCPH is working to become part of this greater movement which will bring about the end of poverty. As such we know our strength lies in supporting those organizations that are at the forefront of projects that will bring about the end of child poverty. Our support will be funneled to those organizations that are best equipped to provide sustenance, education, health care, advance the building of infrastructure and campaign for the eradication of poverty.
We believe that if those of us who are more fortunate shared some of our wealth with others, in time, there would be no more need. Ours is not a just world but we can strive to make it one.
